A Call to Prayer and Fasting
Join us for 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting starting January 5th. Together, we will seek God’s presence and grace for our lives, families, and communities.
“I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication…”(Zechariah 12:10).
The Journey: Ezra 8:21-23 describes a pivotal moment when the whole community poured themselves out before the Lord in humility, prayer, and fasting. They sought God’s favor to guide their steps and protect the rising generation—and God answered!
Ezra 8:21: “Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods.”
With hearts surrendered and fresh dependence on His grace, they stepped forward in faith to restore what had been broken. These pioneers of spiritual renewal laid a foundation for an outpouring of God’s grace on their entire region.
As we begin these 21 days of prayer and fasting together, let’s take our next step into God’s story with hearts humbled, hands open, and faith stirred for His multiplied grace to transform our lives, families, and communities.

How to Fast
Fasting, in a biblical context, is the practice of abstaining from food for spiritual reasons. We can find many examples of fasts in the Bible, and are able to categorize them into three dietary methods:
1. The Regular Fast: Abstaining from all forms of food, except water.
2. The Absolute Fast: Complete abstention from both food and drink. Rare and advised only for short durations. Not commonly recommended.
3. The Partial Fast: This is more of a restriction of food, or certain types of food, rather than abstinence. In this category, you will find examples such as:
The Daniel Fast: based on Daniel 1 and 10, eliminates meat, “choice foods” and alcohol. Only drinks water.
Juice-only Fast: this is what it sounds like. No solid foods, only juices and water to drink.
Meal Fast: omitting a certain meal each day, and spending that time with God.
There are many other variations of fasting. This is a simple list to give you a couple of ideas. In our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we do not require a specific type of fast, but rather that you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray about what/how God would have you fast over these 21 days. And remember to set time apart for prayer, worship, and scripture reading.
*Before starting any fasting regimen, including dietary changes, individuals are strongly advised to consult with their healthcare provider to ensure it is safe and suitable for their specific health conditions and circumstances. It is important to note that the guidance on fasting, including types and durations, is based on historical and biblical contexts. However, personal health considerations and medical conditions may vary, and professional medical advice should be sought to determine the appropriateness of any fasting practice.
