Repairing the Altar of Compassion across OC, LA, and beyond.

As we return to the Lord with fasting, weeping, and prayer, we step into His story of redemption for our cities. Let's humble ourselves and restore what’s been broken, allowing God’s presence to flow into the streets, homes, and hearts of our communities.

Join us as we launch our Week of Prayer and Fasting—starting on October 20th in LA and concluding on the 27th in Brookhurst. Together, we will rebuild the ancient ruins and raise up the age-old foundations.

How to Fast

Fasting, in a biblical context, is the practice of abstaining from food for spiritual reasons. We can find many examples of fasts in the Bible, and are able to categorize them into three dietary methods:

1. The Regular Fast: Abstaining from all forms of food, except water.

2. The Absolute Fast: Complete abstention from both food and drink. Rare and advised only for short durations. Not commonly recommended.

3. The Partial Fast: This is more of a restriction of food, or certain types of food, rather than abstinence. In this category, you will find examples such as:

  • The Daniel Fast: based on Daniel 1 and 10, eliminates meat, “choice foods” and alcohol. Only drinks water.

  • Juice-only Fast: this is what it sounds like. No solid foods, only juices and water to drink.

  • Meal Fast: omitting a certain meal each day, and spending that time with God.

There are many other variations of fasting. This is a simple list to give you a couple of ideas. In our Week of Prayer and Fasting, we do not require a specific type of fast, but rather that you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray about what/how God would have you fast. And remember to set time apart for prayer, worship, and scripture reading.

*Before starting any fasting regimen, including dietary changes, individuals are strongly advised to consult with their healthcare provider to ensure it is safe and suitable for their specific health conditions and circumstances. It is important to note that the guidance on fasting, including types and durations, is based on historical and biblical contexts. However, personal health considerations and medical conditions may vary, and professional medical advice should be sought to determine the appropriateness of any fasting practice.
